Last night, PlayStation 3 owners across the globe began flooding message forums to report show-stopping errors while playing a range of games on Sony's console. The commonly reported error code, 8001050F, prevents gamers from signing into the PlayStation Network, and in several cases disallows game play in both offline and online modes. Sony quickly acknowledged the error, stating that it was "aware of the issue and are currently investigating it.

Following up on the issue this morning, Sony issued a statement saying that it believes the problem is related to a bug in the PS3's internal clock and hopes to have the situation resolved within 24 hours. Also, as initially surmised, the bug afflicts all PS3 models other than the PS3 Slim, which released in late August 2009." Read more

SEGA has sent word that an online multiplayer demo for Aliens vs Predator will be released simultaneously on Xbox Live, PlayStation Network and STEAM tomorrow February 4th. The multiplayer demo will deliver the chance to play as all three species – the Colonial Marine, the Predator and the Alien – and go head-to-head in Deathmatch mode on Refinery, one of the game’s multiplayer maps.

“The team at Rebellion has created a truly immersive multiplayer experience with three completely different and compelling playable species. We believe that Aliens vs Predator offers gamers a unique alternative to the current FPS multiplayer games on the market, and sets a precedent for the evolution of multiplayer gaming in the genre,” said Gary Knight, European Marketing Director of SEGA Europe.

“Multiplayer was a huge part of our original AVP game back in 1999, and we’ve kept the spirit of that classic experience in creating the multiplayer for our new Aliens vs Predator. With the demo now gamers can get to grips with each of the three iconic species so they can hone their skills and be ready for when the game launches and battle commences,” said Jason Kingsley, CEO and Creative Director of Rebellion.

Aliens vs Predator is set to be released on 360, PS3, and PC on February 16th in America and February 19th in Europe

Finally PS3 and PC owners get to brandish some of that episodes of liberty city stories goodness yep that's right apparently the exclusivity deal that Rockstar had with Microsoft is up and the DLC is now free to circulate to the rest of the consoles...well um except the Wii(we still luv yah Nintendo) Anyway if you have no idea what Episodes from Liberty city is offereing here is the offical description:

The Lost and Damned is a dark trip through Liberty City’s seedy underbelly as outlaw biker, Johnny Klebitz, fights to keep his gang together as a rift in the gang’s leadership threatens to tear the brotherhood apart. In The Ballad of Gay Tony, players explore Liberty City’s high-end nightlife as Luis Lopez, struggling to balance the temptations of money and vice against loyalties to family and friends. Both episodes feature a slew of new vehicles and weapons, and each episode adds new activities including cage fighting, gang wars and BASE jumping.

Gamers can also note that these episodes DO NOT require the original GTA4 disc to play, so yeh, cool eh? So when does this magic happen you ask? March 30th 2010 is the projected release so look out for it.

With the 2010 World Cup in South Africa just a few months from now, an official World Cup game from EA Sports was a virtual certainty. Although the Xbox 360 came out in 2005--just four years after the release of the Xbox--it seems that Microsoft isn't too eager to jump to the Xbox 720 (or whatever it will eventually be called).

Speaking at a briefing at CES over the weekend and originally reported by the Guardian, Microsoft senior director of Xbox product management David Hufford said that not only is Microsoft not rushing to get to the next generation of consoles, but that the Xbox 360 has a lot more time left. The Nintendo Wii is finally getting Netflix's streaming service, which is already available on competing game consoles.

Streaming from the online movie-rental service will go live on Nintendo's console this spring, according to a joint announcement on Wednesday. As with the competing consoles, the service will be available at no additional cost for Netflix subscribers with unlimited plans, which start at $8.99 per month. Read more.

As the game console wars rage on, new findings from Nielsen may give Xbox 360 fans a little more fodder for their bragging rights.

According to the market researcher, Microsoft's Xbox 360 is the most-used console when measured by its share of total usage minutes, capturing 23.1 percent of gaming time. It is followed by the PlayStation 2 with 20.4 percent of usage time and the Nintendo Wii with 19 percent. Surprisingly, the PlayStation 3 didn't make the list top-three list. Read more

It has begun. With iPhone hacker George Hotz (the kids call him GeoHot) releasing his PlayStation 3 exploit to the world today, he's kicked off what's sure to be a non-stop game of cat-and-mouse between the global hacking community and the Japanese consumer electronics giant. "This is the coveted PS3 exploit," Hotz writes on his blog, linking to the exploit while noting that it "gives full memory access and therefore ring 0 access from OtherOS." Okay, we really only understood that first part but we're sure "full memory access" is synonymous with "bad news" for Sony's engineers. When first revealing his progress last Friday, Hotz wrote, "I have read/write access to the entire system memory, and HV level access to the processor. In other words, I have hacked the PS3."
